A new approach for determination of peak flood hydrograph

Abstract:

For design of spillways, culverts and other hydraulic structures, determination of peak flood hydrograph is necessary. In watersheds that have hydrometric stations, conventional method (produce flood hydrograph by governing stochastic distribution on instantaneous maximum annual discharge) is used for determination of flood hydrograph, but this method cannot predict variations of flood hydrograph in the future. In this study, hydrometric data are produced by the Markov chain method. Then the driest and the wettest hydrometric data series are extracted. These series can produce new flood hydrographs. New flood hydrographs help designers and engineers for more accurate design and procurement of next needs. For case study, Telezang hydrometric station is selected. This station locates on the Dez River in south west of Iran.
