Abstract:

We proposed an empirical prediction of farmers’ attendance at horticultural extension programs in Iran. It was derived through an analysis of current practice of extension programs in horticulture and review of Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) literature. Seven variables including behavioral intention, control beliefs, perceived behavioral control, subjective norm, normative belief, attitude toward behavior, and outcome expectancy were used as dependent variables in predicting farmers’ attendance in extension programs and their interrelationships were suggested and empirically tested. The results provide an expanded understanding of the factors that shape farmers’ behavior, and implications of this work are discussed.
