I European Conference of Post Graduate Horticulture Scientists (ECPHS) Palermo, Italy, 12-13 May 2016

Second announcement.

It is a great pleasure to announce and invite you to attend the 1st European Conference of Post graduate Horticultural Scientists (ECPHS) organized by the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS), the Network of European Societies of Horticultural Science (NESHS) and the Department of Agricultural and Forest Science of the University of Palermo, jointly with the Italian Society for Horticultural Science (SOI). The Conference will be held in Palermo (Italy) during May 12-13, 2016.

Palermo is one of the oldest and most beautiful European cities; founded by the Phoenicians, it later became, after the Arab age in Sicily was over, the exotic capital city age of the Norman Kingdom, at the edge of the X° century, and, then, the capital city of the Norman Kingdom and the Kingdom of Sicily, for centuries. Sicily is a unique island in the middle of the Mediterranean seas. Since the age of the Greek colonies of Syracuse and Selinunte the history of the Island has been so rich that it is a real treasure in term of art, culture and landscape.

The two-day conference aims to bring together, in a low-cost event, postgraduate students in horticulture, from a wide range of research areas, providing an interdisciplinary forum for students to present and discuss their work in an intellectually stimulating and informal setting. The Conference is dedicated to MSc and PhD students, together with Post Doc young Scientists. The Scientific Committee (SC) is made of 2 Senior Scientists and 7 PGS indicated by National Horticultural Societies member of NESHS (Benelux, Greece, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Romania).

During two days, participants will attend 4 oral sessions, with 20 selected presentations (20' plus 10' of question time), and 2 poster sessions open to all fields of horticulture, and and two opening lectures given by a senior scientist chosen by the SC. One workshop will be organized on a topic selected by the SC. All contributions will be published online and reviewed by the scientific committee. Most relevant 5 papers, with the students as first Authors, will be evaluated by the SC to be submitted to the ISHS Journal eJHS for potential publication. The reviewing and fee policies of the eJHS however will stand. The next topic of the conference will be decided jointly by the organizers and the participants themselves.

The best oral presentation will be awarded a ‘Special ISHS recognition’ as registration fee and travel refund of the organized event or of a following ISHS event chosen by the student, plus 1 year ISHS membership (up to a maximum of 750€ in total).
