Abstract:

The aim of this present study was to evaluate the genetic divergence among 18 common bean genotypes from Carioca group, by multivariate techniques based on 52 RAPD markers, in which 36.53% were polymorphic. Measures of genetic distance were obtained by using Roger’s Distance and evaluated through Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean (UPGMA), which clustered the genotypes into four groups and was efficient in placing elite lines into one group and cultivars into other ones. Princesa, Iapar 81 and EL 49 cultivars were the most divergent in relation to the others. The most similar lines were CNFC 8007 and CNFC 8008. Genotypes showed considerable genetic divergence, which is partly associated to the origin of genetic material in study. The results showed that there was enough genetic variability to be explored in common bean breeding programs in order to obtain superior segregant from Carioca group.
