Abstract:

The plants grew with a differentiated pH between 8.0 in the zone called Sierra Elvira and 6.0 in Llano de la Perdiz. This determined the organic-N content, which was far higher in the first zone than in the second. This same difference was found with all the species studied (Quercus ilexJuniperus oxycedrusRetama sphaerocarpaCistus albidusPhlomis lychnitisDaphne gnidium). This phenomenon was repeated in each of the nitrogen forms studied (NO3, NH4+, total N, mineral N, assimilated N). Therefore, the ratio organic N:assimilated N registered an intermediate value for Llano de la Perdiz and 1.07 for Sierra Elvira, indicating that the plants had had low N reserves and thus could have suffered a lack or limitation at a certain time, and the assimilation rate was not interrupted at any time because of nutritional distortion. The NR activity in its different forms, infiltrated with NO3 or Mo and Mo+NO3 and endogenous, sharply increased, regardless of the plants or pedological conditions. This surge in activity, between 100% and 150%, indicates that the plants underwent a serious limitation in growth (biomass increase), which could have been avoided by N and Mo fertilization.
