Mini-tuber production potential of potato cultivars in repeated and conventional harvesting under in vivo condition

Abstract:

The plantlets produced from meristem of two potato cultivars were propagated by single node cutting method and planted on the bed with Punce and Biolan mixed in ratio of 1:1 v/v. The factorial experiment was performed according to the completely randomized design in four replications. Factor A was harvesting method (repeated and conventional), factor B potato cultivar (Agria and Savalan) and factor C fertilization time. The highest number of mini-tubers per plant and m2 and in weight classes of <3 g and 3-7 g was in Savalan cultivar; and the highest weight of mini-tubers per plant and m2 and in weight class of > 7 g in Agria cultivar at fertilization treatment after 15, 30 and 45 days. Highest number and weight of mini-tubers per plant and m2and in weight classes of <3 g, 3-7 g and >7 g were related to fertilization treatment after 15, 30 and 45 days in repeated harvest. Maximum number and weight of mini-tubers per plant and m2 and in weight class of 3-7 g were produced in Savalan cultivar, and maximum weight of mini-tubers in weight class class of >7 g and mini-tuber size average in Agria cultivar in repeated harvesting. Savalan cultivar had the highest number of mini-tubers per m2 and Agria cultivar the highest weight of mini-tubers per m2 at fertilization after 15, 30 and 45 days in repeated harvesting. The relationship of mini-tuber number per plant was positive and significant with mini-tuber weight per plant and m2, and negative and significant with mini-tuber size average.
