Abstract:

In most cities, establishment and development of chemical and agricultural industries lead to more industrial waste productions which one of the important priorities of such cities is a proper management and a safe waste disposal. Azarbayjan Sharghi province, located in northwest of Iran, was one of the considerable examples of this issue. The aim of this paper was to locate the suitable sites for sanitary landfilling of industrial waste in Tabriz city using combination of Multi Criteria Decision Support System (MCDM), Geographical Information System (GIS) in Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS). Firstly, the effective criteria for disposal site selection was identified and based on Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), and these criteria were divided into smaller components and surfaces. The present criteria in each component were prioritized by pair-wise comparisons method. In this method, each element with respect to the importance is weighted in a range of one to nine (one for low importance and nine for high importance). For each surface, level of importance of weighting was computed employing Satty method. After preparing the essential information layers, such as distance from well, fountain, hydraulic slope etc., the calculated weights of layers with the use of tree structure were assigned. Finally, four scenarios for industrial waste disposal were obtained by overlaying available information layers.
