Abstract:

The effects of butachlor on soil enzymes activity (urease, phosphatase and dehydrogenase) and soil microorganism were determined. The results showed that urease activity was stimulated by butachlor (5 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg) on day 1 and 7 and inhibited on day 14 and 21. In the soil samples with 50 and 100 mg/kg of butachlor, urease activity was inhibited during the whole exposure time. In addition, butachlor decreased the activities of phosphatase, while increased dehydrogenase activities in all treatments during the whole incubation period. In the case of soil microorganisms, the application of 5 mg/kg of butachlor did not negatively affect the number of soil microbes. However, butachlor (100 mg/kg) significantly decreased the number of soil microbes and had adverse affects on microbial activity. In the present experiment, the effects of butachlor on the growth of microorganisms were similar to urease and phosphatase, while differed from dehydrogenase. These results suggested that changes in enzyme activity and soil microbial amounts during exposure periods were sensitive parameters to assess the extent of injury caused by butachlor.
