Genetic diversity of caper plant (Capparis ssp.) from North Morocco

The inter-simple sequences repeat (ISSR) markers technique was used to determine the genetic relationships among Capparis spp. Genetic distances, based on ISSR data were estimated for 90 accessions of Capparis species, from North Morocco (Regions Fes, Taounate, My Idriss). Five selected primers produced a total of 37 polymorphic reproducible amplification fragments. Combinations of these ISSR markers allowed identifying all studied genotypes. In the UPGMA phenogram based on the proportion of shared ISSR fragments, 20 groups of caper plant were distinguished at the 32% critical value of similarity. The ANOVA test revealed a significant degree of differentiation among populations. The UPGMA programs show a partial correlation between genetic distances and geographical origin.
