Hybrid and hybridization as appropriate tool for silkworm production improvement: A review

Abstract:

Silkworm breeding has progressed very well due to short generation interval and the large number of progenies. Among the various tools of silkworm breeding, hybrid production and hybridization phenomenon has been very important and the most important part of sericulture industry developments is due to hybrid vigour phenomenon. Traits correlation, the role of indigenous races, types of intercourse and combining capabilities are also other reviewed cases in this article. Generally, in this article, silkworm-breeding situation with emphasizing on hybrid vigour and hybridization phenomenon is reviewed and the resulting gains will be offered to readers.
