Abstract:

Oil price increase, in combination to current economic crisis of the Greek economic system, is the motive that leads many Greek households to satisfy their energy consumption needs by exploiting Renewable Energy Sources (RES). The present study aims at conducting an empirical analysis regarding the fuelwoods’ consumption, unfolding the determining parameters that affect this specified energy source pattern in the household of the Arcadia prefecture, which is situated in the Southern Greece. The collected data were gathered with the support of a structural questionnaire, while data manipulation was implemented through descriptive statistics and multivariable analysis. The study concluded that socio-economic variables, such as household members and their annual income, are appropriate to rationale the observed fuelwoods’ consumption patterns. Moreover, a positive correlation between the households’ spacing and the quantity of fuelwoods’ consumption is also reported.
