Investigation of internal combustion engine vibrations in order to reduce noise using a developed model

Abstract:

In this paper, to study vibrations of the main components of the engine due to combustion, a dynamic model is presented based on Lagrange’s equation. The effects of both reciprocal and rotational components of the engine in producing sound and vibration were accurately considered in the model. This model includes a mass matrix and a velocity matrix whose components were obtained as periodic functions with respect to time. Applying the model to data received from OM-355 engine manufactured by Idem industry, it is possible to analyse noise and vibration due to resonance phenomenon in the engine body. It is concluded that noise propagation resulting from the sixth vibration mode is drastically increased from the engine block, especially from crankcase. The results obtained from this research can be used for design of engine.
