Alternative strategies for commercial egg producers against market prices risks in Turkey: Game theory approach

Abstract:

In this study the optimal selling months for egg producers were aimed. To this end Wald, Benefit and Regret criterions of game theory were used. In order to find the optimal solutions the transformed Wald, Benefit and Regret linear programming models were solved. Monthly egg prices received by egg producers between 1999-2007 years were used as the main material, which were provided from Poultry Meat Producers and Breeders Association. According to Wald, Benefit and Minimum Regret criterions the optimal selling months were December, February and October, which means the selling concentration should be in winter months for the producers to get the highest average price. Although the Benefit and Minimum Regret criterions provide the producers 22.45 and 32.65% higher price in comparison to Wald criterion, there exist serious setbacks to apply the results of these criterions due to risk perceptions of producers, which stem mainly from their lack of organization and weak financial structures.
