Research on Gini coefficient application in the distribution of water pollution

Abstract:

Based on the control index and equity criteria analysis of water pollution distribution everywhere in China, the Gini coefficient, an important tool for quantitative evaluation is applied to environmental analysis. Expressing equity criteria by quantitative determination and defining the minimum Gini coefficient of every control index as the standard value of multi-objective equity. Based on the economics connotation of the Gini coefficient and taking the water pollution distribution of all regions in 2009 as an example, Gini coefficient is applied to analyze the effect of population, gross domestic product, water resources and land area on the water pollution distribution. According to the calculated Gini coefficient of water pollution distribution, we also conduct quantitative analysis on water pollution distribution and then propose distribution program. The results show that it is objective to use the Gini coefficient as the control index of fairness for water pollution distribution and the proposed program for water pollution distribution reflects the multi-objective fairness.
