Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) plays a role in the postprandial metabolism regulation in Duroc×Landrace×Large White growing barrows

Abstract:

Three Duroc×Landrace×Large White growing barrows (65.9±3.8 kg BW) were fitted with a catheter in the carotid artery and fed a common cornsoybean meal based diet three times daily at 07:30, 15:30 and 23:30 h. Blood samples were taken immediately from catheter pre-feeding and at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 h after feeding to determine the changes in plasma tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) concentration. The results showed that plasma TNF-α concentration decreased significantly 1 hour post feeding (p<0.05), then tended to increase with fluctuation and increased very significantly at 6 h after feeding (p<0.01), compared with the preprandial concentration. These results suggested that TNF-α may play a role in the postprandial metabolism regulation in pigs.
