Abstract:

The current study was carried out in Fars Agricultural and Natural Sciences Research Center (Zarghan) in 2008-2009, to determine the level of self- compatibility as well as appropriate pollinizers for six late-flowering commercial almond cultivars (Tuono, Cristomorto, Merced, Kapareil, Ai, and Ferragnes). The experiments were carried out in laboratory and field steps. Diallele crosses were used in the study. The percentage of fruit set was recorded 60 days after the pollination. The number of germinated pollens and pollen tube growth were evaluated 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours after pollination using fluorescence microscopy. The percentage of fruit set in cross-pollinations was higher than that in self-pollinations. From among the self-pollinations, fruit set was observed only in Tuono (41%). The results obtained in the field experiments were almost compatible with those obtained in the laboratory step. The most appropriate pollinizers for the selected cultivars were determined.
