Abstract:A 7-years old male Rottweiler dog was referred for evaluation of a neoplastic mass located rostrolateral to the temporomandibular joint. Following the removal of the mass, histopathological examination has been performed. It revealed an abundance of connective tissue bands with islands of epithelial cells, a large number of fibroblasts and an infiltrate with lymphocytes and monocytes. Due to the histological features, the diagnosis of achantomatous ameloblastoma, now called canine achantomatous ameloblastoma or canine peripheral ameloblastoma was confirmed. Because of uncertain margins postoperatively, the dog was clinically re-examined after 3 weeks, revealing recidivism of the acanthomatous ameloblastoma activity. Chemotherapy treatment was recommended and instituted.
