Abstract:

Summer-season muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.) cultivars, ‘Summer Star’, ‘Red Queen’, ‘Earth Sonata’ and ‘Solar Hagyeo’, produced in each farm of six provinces in South Korea were investigated to evaluate which fruit cultivar and region were the most appropriate to produce high quality of fruit in the market. ‘Summer Star’ melons produced in a farm in Gochang (GC) province had higher fruit soluble solids content (SSC) than the other fruit produced in other provinces, with higher flesh weight, fruit length and diameter, and flesh thickness observed for ‘Solar Hagyeo’ melons produced in GC. Melon fruit produced in GC overall had high SSC, flesh and seed weight, flesh length and diameter, and flesh thickness, while the lower variables in fruit were observed for each farm of Damyang or Naju. ‘Summer Star’ melons had higher fruit SSC than the ‘Red Queen’, ‘Earth Sonata’ and ‘Solar Hagyeo’ that had higher flesh weight, fruit length and diameter, and flesh thickness.
