Abstract:

The success of municipal household solid waste (MHSW) recycling programs depends on the consistently positive participation of the residents. The effective strategies of improving the residents’ participation must be clearly their behavior orientation and understand the correlation factors on the residents’ recycling behavior. This paper investigated the influence of environmental attitudes, convenience, information and knowledge, and economic incentives in residents’ recycling behavior by reliability analysis and the logic regression analysis taking Harbin as a case. The results suggest neighbors’ affection, residents’ responsibility, recycling location, and information are important factors in recycling behavior. One major finding is that economic incentive doesn’t run as expected. The implications of some findings for the promotion of recycling behavior are discussed.
