Intragastric administration with the hen egg yolk-derived phosvitin phosphopeptides enhances the immune functions in C57BL/6 mice

Abstract:

The phosvitin phosphopeptides (PPPs), extracted from the hen egg, have been proved to have many biofunctions, however, little is known in regard to influencing the immune functions to the animal and human. In this study, we intragastrically administrated C57BL/6 mice with PPPs for 14 days, and then the immune responses were determined. Our data demonstrated that the intragasrtic administration with the PPPs could enhance the strong cellular immune response and humoral response, which were characterized by higher level of the lymphocyte proliferation response, the macrophage phagocytosis and the immunoglubin secrection. In addition, the intragastric administration with PPPs could significantly promote the relative thymus and spleen weight. Furthermore, PPPs could up-regulate the secretion of the inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-2 and IL-6. Together, these results suggested that PPPs could be a kind of the natural nutrient regulating the immune response in the animal and human research.
