Abstract:

A feeding study is performed to investigate effect of nano-ceria on activity and gene expression of pancreatic amylase of hens, and the mechanism of its influence on digestive enzyme is discussed. Three hundred eighty four 26-week-old healthy commercial hens were selected and allotted randomly to four treatments, each treatment was divided into eight replicates comprising twelve hens each. The basal diet was corn-soybean meal. The treatment diets were basal diet with 0 mg/kg (I), 30 mg/kg (II), 60 mg/kg (III) and 90 mg/kg (IV) nano-ceria. The whole period consisted of a one week pretest and a six weeks test. The result showed that: nano-ceria supplied at 30 mg/kg tended to have greater activity of pancreatic amylase in intestine (p=0.001) and pancreas (p=0.006), and the mRNA level of amylase tended to be higher (P<0.05). But application of rare earths at 90 mg/kg significantly decreased activity of intestinal amylase (p<0.01) and pancreatic amylase (p<0.05) and the mRNA level (P<0.01). These data suggested that nano-ceria regulation of pancreatic α-amylase expression in hens was complex and probably regulated by transcriptional events.
