Abstract:Use of large amount of extraction solvents has limited preparations of genistein and daidzein, which have proved effective in prevention of many diseases. In the present study, preparation of genistein and daidzein using functional acidic ionic liquids (ILs) as novel catalysts was tried. The functional ILs showed excellent catalytic activities. High yields were obtained with the use of ionic liquid 1,4-bis(3-methylimidazolium)butane hydrogen sulfate, [MIM]2C4[HSO4]2. The optimum reaction conditions are as follows: IL concentration of 1 mmol/ml, temperature of 95ºC, and time 3 h, with the conversion rate of daidzein reaching 95.9%; IL concentration of 1 mmol/ml, temperature of 100ºC and time of 3 h and the conversion of genistein was 92.3%. The catalyst was reused for 6 runs without obviously decreased reaction rates.
