Abstract:

In pot and micro-plot experiments on soil colonized by lupine rhizobia nodulation and seed yield of yellow lupine as influenced by pre-sowing seed inoculation with Bradyrhizobium sp. (Lupinus) alone or with mixed inoculants containing lupine rhizobia and Azotobacter chroococcum were studied. In the pot experiment most of the tested strains of the lupine rhizobia in pure cultures or in mixtures with A. chroococcum significantly improved nodulation of lupine plants, but only one Bradyrhizobium sp. strain L93 in mixture with A. chroococcum  significantly increased seed yield of lupine as compared to the uninoculated lupine. In microplot experiments neither pre-sowing lupine seeds treatment with the inoculant containing Bradyrhizobium sp. strain L93 alone nor with the mixed inoculant of strain L93 and A. chroococcum significantly increased nodulation intensity and seed yields of yellow lupine in comparison to the uninoculated lupine, although some beneficial effects of the mixed inoculant were found.
