Legislative and financial perspectives on the environmental policies of Romania

Abstract:Environmental issues have become a core area after Romania was granted the status of member state of the European Union. If national environmental regulations were rather deficient before 2007, as the natural resources were used carelessly and industrial plants were being wound up without environmental planning, things have taken a different turn at the moment. To begin with, the European Law provisions and the specific environmental standards have been adopted. Their enforcement and the changes in terms of mentality have brought about significant improvement. However, apart from the observance of the European directives, the meeting of all the environmental objectives that have been set highly depends on the domestic and EU budget resources to be allocated. Under these circumstances, the aim of this paper is to synthetically approach the most significant aspects and make the necessary correlations with the economic and financial fields.
