Abstract:The main purpose of this study was to identify the potential of rural tourism and to determine the perception level in the West Mediterranean Region of Turkey. Study was based on face to face survey results conducted by 57 households in Isparta and Antalya provinces. Results indicated that there are some differences on results between both provinces in terms of tourism attractions. For example while sufficiency level of the accommodation facilities of the local community were indicated as 46.4 per cent for Isparta, 73.7 per cent for Antalya. Participants were found very enthusiastic towards rural tourism and efforts to make it widespread. These findings suggest that to develop rural tourism, rural tourism activities should be supported by local and state level; promotional activities for rural areas should be enhanced.
