Abstract:

The implementation of separate management systems of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 need to be carried out by organizations in oorder to ensure their business continuity. This is because through this implementation, organizations are able to receive various benefits such as reducing business costs, improving companies image and having greater competitive edge. However, there are drawbaks to the implementation of the separate management systems such as, duplication of work, increased costs and additional time and work load due to common elements of all three systems. Thus organizations are trying to find a solution to solve these problems. The emergence of an integrated management system (IMS) is viewed as a good solution to the problems faced by organizations. IMS has its advantages by eliminating the common element among all three systems. This paper provides answers to the question of how the IMS serves as a problem solver and at the same time benefitted organizations in more than one way.
