Abstract:

This study investigated the effects of exogenous hydrogen sulphide on the germination of pumpkin seeds under NaCl stress. The results showed that the germination rate, hypocotyl and radicle lengths, and the soluble sugar contents were decreased, and the activities of α-amylase, β-amylase, SOD, and POD were inhibited under NaCl stress. Exogenous hydrogen sulphide treatment significantly increased the hypocotyl length, radicle length, and soluble sugar content of seedlings. Moreover, this treatment increased the activities of α-amylase, β-amylase, SOD, and POD, and decreased the accumulation of malondialdehyde. NaCl stress inhibited the germination process of pumpkin seeds, whereas exogenous hydrogen sulphide effectively alleviated this inhibitive effect.
