Effect of irrigation water and nitrogen coupling on leaf area and dry matter yield of flue-cured tobacco: A lysimeter study

Abstract:

In this paper, agronomic characteristics of flue-cured tobacco under different water and nitrogen coupling were observed in lysimeters to find an optimal irrigation-fertilization mode. Besides, a growth model was used to investigate the dynamics of leaf area of flue-cured tobacco. The results showed that flue-cured tobacco of irrigation water of 400 mm and N fertilizer of 120 kg/hm2 grew better and achieved the largest leaf area and total dry matter yield (3155.6 kg/hm2). Based on the growth model, the theoretical increment of tobacco leaf area under the irrigation amount of 400 mm was higher compared with those of 300 mm and 500 mm. The results suggested the optimum water-nitrogen combination was 400 mm irrigation amount with 120 kg/hm2 N fertilizer application.
