Cultural meaning of flowing water textures in Japanese gardens

Abstract:

Chinese gardens are generally inspired by the nature; such garden designs are learnt by Japanese for the improvement to become their uniqueness. Both Chinese and Japanese gardens stress on waterscape that the role of flowing water textures in a garden, the relations with historical development and cultural background, and the implications of philosophy thinking and religious myths are the interesting and worth-studying issues. By analyzing Kyoto gardens in Japan, this study tends to look for the meaning of flowing water, observe the natural style, and discuss the applications, such as city aquascape, landscape recreational facilities, or ecological engineering combined with hazard prevention.
