Abstract:

In this study, waterlogging (Wl) of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. Dogankent, Ducula-4) seedlings and waterlogging-nitric oxide (Wl-NO) interactions were investigated. Chlorophyll a (Ch a), chlorophyll b (Ch b), total chlorophyll (Ch a + b) and the amount of carotenoids were determined. Waterlogging conditions caused significant amount of inhibition on Ch a, Ch b, Ch a + b, and carotenoid contents depending on application time in both cultivars. However, Wl-NO applications eliminated the inhibitory effect of Wl in both cultivars. Ducula-4 seedlings are known to be tolerant to waterlogging conditions, and the amount of chlorophyll and carotenoids were  higher in Ducula-4  than in Dogankent seedlings. In addition, NO applications largely eliminated the negative effects of Wl on Ch b, Ch a + b, and carotenoid contents in Ducula-4 variety. In that case, it can be suggested that the NO application significantly improves the negative effects of Wl on the Ducula-4 variety.
