Abstract:

This study was conducted under six bamboo forests which were introduced in coastal sandy area to protect and restore coastal ecosystem in the southeast China. We investigated soil physicochemical properties including soil moisture content (SMC), pH, soil organic matter (SOM), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP) and total potassium (TK), and determined soil enzyme acitvities including sucrase, urease, cellulase and catalase, and also measured soil microbial properties including bacteria, fungi and ctinomycetes counts in bamboo soil and bare land. The content of SMC, SOM, TN, TP and TK in bamboo forests soils was significantly increasing but lower in pH. Soil enzyme activities and soil microbial population counts were considerably higher in various bamboo species than bare land. Simultaneously, the content of soil chemical, enzyme and microbial properties in Phyllostachys violascens f. prevernalis and Dendrocalamus minor var. amoenus forests were higher than other bamboo species. Soil physicochemical properties were positively correlated to soil enzyme and microbial properties but negatively affected with pH. Therefore, comparing of the soil enzyme and microbial properties suggest that planting bamboo might help to increase soil microbial and enzyme activities and enrich soil fertility in coastal sandy area.
