Abstract:As an excellent medicinal and ornamental plant, Ardisia mamillata Hance has attracted wide concerns for its few new varieties. In order to investigate its reproductive physiological characteristics and lay theoretical basis for the genetic breeding research, the flowering dynamics and pollen germination on the stigma of artificially domesticated and cultivated Ardisia mamillata Hance were observed. Experimental results showed that the blooming period of an individual flower of Ardisia mamillata Hance was 1-3 days. During the blooming period of an individual flower of Ardisia mamillata Hance, the anthers cracked and pollens scattered for cross breeding. It also could be observed that 2-3 pollen grains germinated simultaneously on the stigmata on the first day and the second day. According to the observation results, fertilization and fade activities positively correlated during growth stages in this plant. As a whole, the more concentrated flowering period of Ardisia mamillata Hance could lead a higher rate of the fertilization. These findings could help to point toward future experiments that can uncover the genetic mechanisms of the germination processes and cultivate new varieties in Ardisia mamillata Hance.
