Abstract:A novel method based on microwave assisted Fenton oxidation combined with activated carbon absorption was used to process wastewater generated during production of tomato paste. This method was introduced to treat wastewater with high initial concentration of COD loading (> 3,000 mg L-1). In this study operating parameters were investigated; and the optimal conditions were determined as following: flux 166 mL·min-1, microwave power 630 W, absorption time 34 min, H2O2 dosage 2.5 mL and activated carbon dosage 8 g L-1. Using these treatment conditions, the COD removal efficiency was higher than 80%. Comparing with the traditional biological treatments process, the proposed method was fast and cost-effective.
