Abstract:

The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse at the Rice and Industrial Crops Research Centre, MARDI, Serdang, Selangor. The outcome of the study on the weed seed bank showed that there were 5 566.9 m-2 of seeds in the soil at the (0-10) cm depth, and 4 682.3 m-2 of seeds at the depth of (10- 20) cm. The study showed that the top layer (0-10) cm had more seed than the second layer (10-20) cm. The 5 most dominant weed seeds found were Digitaria ciliaris, Eleusine indica, Cyperus iria, Mitracarpus villosus and Lindernea crustacea. The weed emergence pattern showed high percentage emergence during the first four months after sowing followed by subsequent decrease with time.
