Impact of fertilization and sowing time on formation of productivity seedling elements of Festulolium

The aim of the present study was to examine the impact of NPK fertilization amount and of sowing time on some agronomic characteristics (such as vegetative and generative shoots formation, aboveground dry mass, seed-head and seed yield) of Festulolium crop. The experiment was performed in a simple seed gleyic luvisol in 2011-2013 in Lithuania. The first experiment was performed in 2011 during 3 different sowing times (1st of June – early sowing, 22nd of June – medium sowing and 12th of July – late sowing). The second experiment was performed in 1st of May – early sowing, 1st of June – medium sowing and 1st of July – late sowing in 2012. It was repeated 4 times with two cultivars of Festulolium: Punia (L. perenne x F. pratensis.) and Vėtra (L. perenne x F. arundinacea). Analyses were performed before wintering and after wintering (tillering phase) and during anthesis. According to the obtained results, the lower NPK fertilizer rate was sufficient for shoots formation, aboveground dry mass yield, seed-head formation and seeds yield. These indices were differently influenced by several factors: variety, a seasonal pattern of meteorological conditions in specific year, NPK fertilizer and sowing time. Under the conditions of this study, number of seeds did not correlated with seed-head formation and no significant interaction on seed amount between sowing time and NPK fertilizer rate was found, whereas both factors significantly affected the seed-head formation of cv. Punia in 2013. There were no common tendencies found of sowing time influence on tested agronomic characteristics, the effects were remarkably small, and only a few interactions between sowing time and fertilizers rate were statistically significant.
