Abstract:

A new composite polymer concrete with tires waste powder is presented in this paper. The mechanical properties of epoxy polymer concrete with tires powder were investigated. Eleven compositions with different dosages of components (epoxy resin, tires powder, aggregates) were experimentally tested, one mixture being as control, without tire powder. Mechanical characteristics (compressive strength, flexural strength and splitting strength) were determined, density and morphology were performed. Influence of resin content and filler content were analysed. The resin content had a good influence on the mechanical properties and a decrease in properties was observed for high dosages of tire powder. Mechanical properties had lower values compared with the control. Capitalisation of tire powder waste has an important impact in environmental protection. This new concrete composite can be used as alternative material in specific applications of construction industry.
