ABT rooting powder increase root growth and yield in rice

Abstract:

The experiment was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of four types of ABT rooting powders (ABT-3, ABT-4, ABT-6 and ABT-7) and their doses (0, 20, 40 and 60 ppm) on root and shoot growth and their consequence on yield of rice under tropical environment condition. The widely cultivated rice variety MR219 was used as test crop. Results indicated that root and straw weight and grain yield were significantly influenced by ABT rooting powder and their doses. Among the four types of ABT rooting powders, ABT-4 and ABT-7 performed better root and shoot dry mass production thereby yield as compared to ABT-3 and ABT-6. The results further indicated that the response of ABT rooting powders to same concentration is not similar in achieving higher grain yield in rice. However, although 40 ppm concentration showed higher grain yield in most of ABT rooting powders, it had non-significant differences in grain yield with 20 and 60 ppm concentrations. Therefore, it may be advisable to use concentrations of 20-40 ppm of ABT rooting powder for increasing grain yield of rice. Among the rooting powders, ABT-4 and ABT-7 were the best for increasing rice production under Malaysian environmental condition.
