Optimization of draft and power requirement for disc plough, spring tine cultivator and offset disc harrow on a clay loam soil

Abstract:

Having a particular type of soil and soil conditions, different tillage implements have their different operational draft and power requirements. Response surface methodology was applied to an existing experimental data to obtain optimal draft and power requirement for 3-bottom disc plough, spring tine cultivator and offset disc harrow in a clay loam soil. Optimum draft for 3-bottom disc plough, spring tine cultivator and offset disc harrow on a clay loam soil were 2.47, 0.27 and 2.84 kN, respectively, while optimum power requirements for 3-bottom disc plough, spring tine cultivator and offset disc harrow were 4.27, 0.28 and 5.54 kW, respectively. Optimum tillage depth and tractor speed for 3-bottom disc plough, spring tine cultivator and offset disc harrow were 22.03 cm and 10.84 km/h, 14.07 cm and 10.80 km/h, 17.70 cm and 10.24 km/h, respectively.
