Abstract:

Seeds of 200 genotypes of Gossypium hirsutum L. were analyzed for oil and protein contents. A significant range of variability for both these traits, i.e. oil (16-24%) and protein (14-20%) was found. Eight cotton genotypes were selected for further studies. The genetic diversity of these eight lines was retested based on simple sequence repeats (SSR) markers. The lowest similarity 52.94 was observed between the local CIM-70 and exotic H-499-3 genotypes. The additive type of gene action was predominant with partial dominant in both oil and protein contents.
