Abstract:

The effects of selenium sprayed to tobacco leaves on growth and biomass, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, chlorophyll a+b, carotenoid, the peroxidase activity (POD), superoxide dismutase activity (SOD) and contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) of tobacco were studied through pot experiment. The results indicated that an appropriate amount of selenium contributed to growth of overground and underground parts. Moreover, chlorophyll and carotenoid increased after spraying right amount of selenium, the effect being obvious in a short time. POD activity of tobacco was not transformed obviously after selenium spraying , while the effect was gradually more and more obvious with the extension of time. Action of selenium to SOD was visible in short term, but weakened with the extension of time. MDA in tobacco leaves accumulated obviously after selenium spraying and was unaffected on growth season. The content of selenium in the flue-cured tobacco leaves increased with the concentration of spraying, and the effect of spraying in the prometaphase was evidently better than in the prophase.
