Abstract:

The research deals with 160 birdsfoot trefoil agroecotypes (Lotus corniculatus L.), of which 61 Romanian populations, regarding forage productivity and quality. The quantitative and qualitative determinations were performed on 50 plants for each agroecotype, individually planted at distances of 70/70 cm. Plant productivity, expressed as sprigging capacity, plant weight, dry matter and seed quantity, was higher in the Romanian birdsfoot trefoil agroecotypes. The study of cyanogenic compounds led to the conclusion that the maximal accumulation level, in all birdsfoot trefoil agroecotypes, was obtained in July, when we recorded the highest atmospheric temperature during the vegetation period. The agroecotypes originating in the Southern regions (latitude 40-50º) recorded higher increases of accumulation in cyanogenic compounds than the Northern agroecotypes. The nutritional value (crude protein, crude cellulose, fat, ADF, NDF) proved the existence of significant differences between the agroecotypes studied and the superiority of the Romanian and Central-European ones.
