Abstract:

Cultivated land is the material base of human survival and development. Its protection in mountainous, headwater areas not only has special significance in regional economic development and ecological conservation, but also provides greater water security. The traditional research on the causes of cultivated land loss in those areas is mainly at the macro level and it ignores the spatial conversion of geographical scale, which severely reduces the credibility and reliability of the research. This paper uses Miyun County in Beijing as a case study to analyze the causes of cultivated land loss in areas protected for headwater at both the township scale and micro level. The research shows that the causes of cultivated land loss in mountainous areas protected for water source vary geographically, so it is important to develop specific cultivated land protection policies and arrange the regional development strategies.
