Abstract:

This paper has a couple of objectives: to identify the linkages between vegetable oil processing industry and other industrial sectors with the evolution of the edible oil consumption structure in China, and to examine the impact of vegetable oil price rise on general price levels within the Leontief input-output price model. The results reveal a strengthening sensitivity of dispersion of the vegetable oil processing industry, which has a greater effect on other industrial sectors than it received impact from other industrial sectors. Vegetable oil production is more sensitive to consumption demand increase. The rural consumer price index is more subject to the shock of vegetable oil price rise than the urban consumer price index. Furthermore, the impact of vegetable oil price rise on general price levels, which mainly focused on the consumer price indices, currently cover the producer price indices and the consumer price indices, and the former are more sensitive to vegetable price rise than the latter.
