Abstract:

Wastes from power plants are estimated at about 150 million tons per year. Large quantities of these wastes are constituted of ash (bottom ash and fly ash). From ash applications, the obtaining of zeolites is an interesting product, with high environmental applications. Zeolites may be easily obtained from ash by direct alkaline conversion processes. In this paper we characterized the ash resulted in Iasi and established the experimental conditions to obtain zeolites. We also compared the ash composition from Iasi and the physical properties with the ash utilized in other countries for obtaining zeolites, in order to find optimal experimental conditions. From all the types of zeolites that can be obtained, in this study we presented hydroxy-sodalite zeolitic products, with properties like the removal of heavy metals from waste waters and soil. In order to use the ash to obtain the zeolite, we have proposed to characterise it chemically, mineralogical and technologically. For this characterisation we performed the chemical analysis for the oxidic compounds, the SEM, FTIR and XRD analysis.
