Abstract:

The aim of this study was to compare urine protein excretion in twenty-four-hour collections with total protein to creatinine ratio (PCR) in CKD patients in chronic renal diseases (CKD). The study was performed on a group of 151 CKD patients in different stages of evolution. The following parameters were obtained from each patient: proteinuria (biuret method), creatinine clearance (Jaffe method) and protein/creatinine ratio. The values of monitored parameters were: 1574.55±1219.7 mg/24 h (proteinuria), 60.62±31.72 ml/min (creatinine clearance) and 1.46±1.21 (urinary protein/creatinine ratio). It was observed a statistically significant correlation between the values of proteinuria determined in urine collected during 24 h and PCR in spot urine samples (r = 0.956475, p < 0.001). PCR in spot urine samples is a simple and safe method that could be used as an alternative to urine protein excretion in twenty-four-hour collections in CKD patients.
