Abstract:

Germination and some growing parameters of three silage maize cultivars Burak F1, Şafak F1 and Ege F1 under four NaCl levels (0, 75, 150 and 300 mmol l-1 NaCl) and on different soils having clay, loam and sand textures were studied. The experiment was conducted as a pot trial and 20 seeds were sown on pots having 5 kg soils per each and were salinized artificially with given NaCl levels. Germination rates was determined daily just after the sowing and 5 plants per pot were removed on 12th days in order to measure root and shoot length and root and shoot dry weight. On the one hand, elevated levels of NaCl led to a decrease on germination rate, on the other hand, germination index as well as root and shoot length, root and shoot dry weight partly increased. Summing up, Şafak F1 was superior to the other cultivars and sandy soils also did not negatively affect the germination.
