Economic evaluation of the ecological agriculture in Romania: Study case of wheat and corn

Abstract:The paper aims to offer a comparative analysis of the production costs between conventional and ecological agriculture (both certified, and on the conversion process) – according to the Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 of June 28th, 2007 on organic production and labelling of organic products. To determine the impact of the gross margin for the agricultural product based on the agricultural system (conventional or ecological), the collected data using diverse official databases and, also, a survey were analyzed. The used method instrument was the questionnaire made randomly and directly applied to the farmers in different regions of the country. The results are able to identify, considering the tools of agricultural policy, the differences between the prices of agricultural plant products obtained in the ecological agricultural system, on the one hand, and in the conventional agriculture, on the other hand, and to allow comparison of the gross margin of similar farms to different agricultural systems. Based on such a comparison, it was argued the necessity of new support measures for ecological agriculture, especially during the conversion period, in agrienvironmental payments frame of the National Plan of Rural Development for the next period, for enriching this sector at national, according to the new perspectives of Common Agriculture Policy.
