Abstract:

To explore the role of super-absorbent polymers (SAPs) on the matrix improvements and vegetation recovery of gangue wasteland, orthogonal experiment of four factors and three levels (the four factors include mixing soil, absorbent polymer, corn stalks in the gangue, and seed dressing with lanthanum nitrate solution) were designed and the plot method was employed in this study. Growth indices and photosynthesis parameters of Trifolium repens L. were used to evaluate the matrix improvement in different treatments.  Incorporating SAP enhanced the ability of gangue debris to conserve water and fertilizer, and therefore helped T. repens L. plants maintain a faster growth rate. Seed dressing with lanthanum nitrate also improved plant photosynthesis parameters and increased water use efficiency. Adding SAP and corn stalks was helpful for plants to adapt to drought and high temperature on gangue matrix. The order of factors affecting the biomass of plant underground part is: SAP>weight ratio of gangue/soil>corn stalks>the concentration of lanthanum nitrate seed dressing. The optimal treatment in this study is: the weight ratio of gangue/soil 500 g: 500 g, with 2 g/kg SAP, 15 g/kg crushed corn stalks, and seed dressing with lanthanum nitrate solution at 200 mg/kg.
