Factors influencing the distribution of plant communities in a subtropical karst forest in Maolan Nature Reserve, southwest China

Abstract:

Fuzzy c-means classification and fuzzy set ordination were used to examine the relationships between the distribution of plant communities and ecological factors in a subtropical karst forest in Maolan National Nature Reserve, southwest China. The forest was sampled by a 1-ha plot with made up of one hundred 10 m×10 m quadrats. One hundred quadrats were classified into eight groups, representing eight plant community types. The results from fuzzy set ordination revealed that the distribution of plant communities is closely correlated to elevation, rock-bareness rate and also briefly related to water conditions of soil. These ecological factors may play important roles to determine the species composition and overall community structure in the subtropical karst forest, southwest China.
