Abstract:

The study aims at performing frequency analysis using L-moments approach of annual daily maximum rainfall (ADMR) series from 63 raingauge stations in Yesilirmak basin in Turkey. For the regional analysis, the stations in the basin were formed six homogeneous groups according to discordancy measure, because of some of all stations in the basin were discordant. Goodness-of-fit criteria based on L-moments approach was used to carry out the best-suitable frequency distribution belonging to a homogeneous region. The criteria termed as ZDIST was estimated for various candidate frequency distributions. For the six homogeneous regions in Yesilirmak basin, the ZDIST criteria introduced various distributions as best- suitable distribution, namely, Generalized Logistic (GLO), Generalized Extreme Values (GEV), Generalized Normal (GNO), Generalized Pareto (GPA) and Pearson Type 3 (PE3) distributions. The most suitable distributions having the minimum ZDIST for the homogeneous regions from one to six were selected, GLO for region 1 and 6, GNO for region 2, GEV for region 3 and 4 and, PE3 for region 5, respectively.
